2017 Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits Le Prieure

Oak is the first thing to hit the nose here. Behind it is a chorus of red fruit; the oak contributes spice of nutmeg, licorice, and a vanilla bean folded into the red and black berries. Polished and modern. The vineyard was certified organic under his father’s reign in 1971. Interestingly, all of the estate’s wines are vinified the same way: minimal sulfur, fermentation with wild yeasts, slow and gentle extraction, up to 10 days of cold maceration. The wines are aged in French oak from the Troncais and Vosges forests, never more than 30% new each year. Aurelien Verdet’s wines are delicious, offering a reliably luxurious, modern, and appealing fruit profile.
