Chateau Cantenac Brown is not a wine to drink young. The wine is usually too tannic and concentrated in its youth. Young vintages can be decanted for an average of 2 to 3 hours, more or less. This allows the wine to soften and open its perfume. Older vintages may need very little decanting, just enough to remove sediment.

The 2007 vintage has notes of earth, truffle, dark red fruits and tobacco. Even with a nice color for the harvest, there is sweet and acidic fruit, the wine is medium-bodied, full, soft in texture and ends with a fruity, slightly dry, uncomplicated finish.

Chateau Cantenac Brown, Grand Cru Classé in 1855. At the beginning of the 19th century, John-Lewis Brown (1769-1851), bought a vineyard and designed in the village of Cantenac, a traditional Tudor-style castle, which reminds him of his Scottish origins . His name is always linked to the Grand Cru Classé. His grandson, John-Lewis Brown (1829-1890), an esteemed animal painter and "Knight of the Legion of France", spent time there during his childhood. In 1843, Mr. Gromard, a banker, took charge of the estate. After the Grand Cru classification of 1855, Louis Armand Lalande (1820-1894), Bordeaux winemaker and owner of several properties in the Médoc, expanded the building. Surrounded by a remarkable British-style park, Château Cantenac Brown has since been among the most original in the Médoc. In 2006, the Simon Halabi family gave new impetus to the estate with the ambition of raising it to the highest levels. José Sanfins currently manages Château Cantenac-Brown. He does everything possible to bring out the best of the magnificent terroir, lavishing the greatest care on the soil and the vines, with great respect for the environment. This meticulous attention to detail continues in the winery, where everything possible is done to produce exceptional wine.

Today, the Château Cantenac Brown vineyard covers 42 hectares in the south of the Margaux appellation, mainly in the commune of Cantenac. Located in the communes of Arsac, Soussans, Margaux, Cantenac and Labarde, the Margaux appellation terroirs are groups of terraced gravel that guarantee good natural drainage. Each terroir is different and produces a unique wine.

The soil of Cantenac Brown is typical Medoc gravel. This beautiful, sparkling quartz, formerly called “Medoc diamonds,” reflects the sun's rays onto the grapes during the day and then releases the heat stored during the day to warm the grapes at night. They produce fine wines, with an intense bouquet, suitable for aging. The merlot, with which they are blended, provides color, richness and softness.
