2012 Beran Zinfandel Napa Valley

When producing Beran Zinfandel Napa, we had the pleasure of working with some of the most outstanding Zinfandel vineyards in the region. From vineyards planted on top of the Atlas Peak to gravelled vineyards in eastern Calistoga at the bottom of the valley, every soil we worked with had an impact on the mix. We were also proud to include some Petite Sirah fruits from old vines.

CATA'S NOTES

Color: Bright and vibrant purple with a deep black core. Aromatic: Black cherry, sweet pipe tobacco and dark chocolate with hints of black pepper and cedar. Palate: Rich and delicious with ripe cherry and chocolate flavors with coffee, coconut and a light fine grain powder; lingering tannins in the finish. Structure: Acidity and tannin are in perfect balance, richness and weight, and great persistence with a light finish in the mouth.

Pairing: Beran Zinfandel Napa is a great wine that pairs perfectly with a large steak, roast lamb, pork ribs, pate or aged cheese.

CHARACTERISTICS

Beran - The Bear - He has always been a figure of strength, the head of the guide. Power and conviction, the same commitment with which our Zinfandels are cultivated and elaborated. Beran is the result of that vision: Zinfandels that embody the spirit of California, with depth of flavor, vitality, flexibility and a sense of place. Overall, 2012 offered a slightly warm growing season with the only two-day heat spike near harvest. This smooth harvest gave the fruit a long time to achieve an ideal balance of acid and sugar along with the complexity of the flavors.

CRITICS

«The Beran Napa Zinfandel 2012 is so different from the Zins that I used to drink about 40 years ago when I cut my teeth. In those days, the wines were in the 12-13% range of alcohol, and the best were pretty good. Weighing in at 15.4%, this wine has become the standard enjoyed by today's wine drinkers. Loaded with berries, soft on the palate, a sweet touch, fits perfectly with slightly sweet barbecued ribs. Drink now or in 10 years.
