2010 Petrus
$8,300.00
In 1925, Edmonde Loubat acquired shares in the Domaine, seeing its great potential. For 20 years, he promoted the wines, and in 1945, he joined forces with Jean-Pierre Moueix, a Corrèze native and head of his own business in Libourne.
Together, they tirelessly developed Petrus's reputation, sharing the firm conviction that it would become the equal of the great Châteaux of the Left Bank. The wine became especially popular in the United States, where Kennedy became its first ambassador. Upon the death of Edmonde Loubat in 1961, Jean-Pierre Moueix became the sole owner and called on winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet to take over the winemaking process. Over the following decades, Petrus rose to the top of the hierarchy of great Bordeaux wines.
Today, Jean-Pierre Moueix's sons and grandsons, Jean-François and Jean, are at the helm of the Domaine, accompanied by Olivier Berrouet, who has replaced his father at the winery and continues to bring the Petrus style to life.
Today, Petrus reigns over an 11.5-hectare vineyard, planted on a 40-meter-high hillock, whose soils are uniquely clayey, with blue clays on the surface and red clays underground due to the presence of iron slag. These clays provide an excellent supply of water, acting like a sponge to redistribute it to the vines when needed. The grape varieties are 100% Merlot. The wines age for 18 to 20 months in new 100% French oak barrels.
Petrus is a wine with absolutely unique olfactory and gustatory characteristics. Velvety, deep, spicy, and particularly seductive, with its distinctive truffle character, it leaves a lasting impression on those lucky enough to taste it at least once in their lives.
