2022 Maison Skyaasen Bourgogne Aligote
$135.00
Maison Skyaasen is a micro-business project by Joachim and Olivia Skyaasen in Mersault, Burgundy. Wine became a passion for Joachim in the late 2000s, and although he discovered numerous wines from all over the world, he developed a special affinity for the traditions, culture, and history of Burgundy.
After several tourist trips and closely following the burgeoning scene of young corporate winemakers, he decided to harvest in 2017 with local producer Nick Harbour, an experience that would completely change his life and that of his family. This triggered a series of events that included leaving his previous career in finance, moving to Burgundy, enrolling in viticulture and oenology school, landing a job at the biodynamic Chandon de Briailles estate, and, of course, the start of his own winemaking adventure. His first vintage was 2017, where he produced just one barrel of Savigny-Les-Beaune, and he slowly expanded in 2019 with the addition of other appellations. Joachim's journey as a winemaker is absolutely astounding and incredibly impressive when tasting these three vintages. He quickly realized the style of wine he wanted to create, and starting with his second harvest, he switched to working primarily with whole-bunch vinifications, very gentle extractions, no sulfite additions, no corrections, no clarifications, and no filtration. His wines are absolutely exceptional despite the relative infancy of his project, and we are honored to bring them on board at such an early stage.
Joachim de Aligoté's first release firmly places it among the region's finest. Light and tense, yet generous in flavor, with great persistence and a lovely mineral finish with soft notes of nuts.
