2012 Navazos Nieport Team

The Navazos Team offers us another of their little gems. This time together with Portuguese winemaker Dirk Niepoort, they follow the same principles that were followed 200 years ago in the Lower Guadalquivir. They describe it this way: "From the limestone soil to the glass, passing through the flor. Never before in recent times have tradition and the future fused with such authenticity in a bottle of Andalusian wine."

This is a natural wine made with Palomino Fino grapes from an Albariza vineyard steeped in tradition and history. No brandy is added, unlike Manzanillas and Fino Sherries. It is classified as a table wine or Tierra de Cádiz wine (although it belongs to the San Lúcar de Barrameda region and is labeled without a designation of origin). A consummate rarity that surprises due to its production method; many will not have enjoyed a wine of these characteristics until they come across a Niepoort Navazos. On the nose, there is a game—more than a fight—for control, although you must allow its aromas to emerge in the form of fruit like banana or toasted, smoky, and liquor-store notes. On the palate, the confusion continues with saline, bitter, and smoky notes.
