2020 Domaine Jean-Marc Roulot Monthelie
$200.00
The Roulot family has been in the village of Meursault since 1798. It was Guy Roulot (1929-1982) and his wife Geneviève who had the vision of making the Domaine what it is today. Now, his children Michèle and Jean-Marc run this Domaine that has been around for six generations.
Historically, Meursault wines were notable around the world, but the town's appellation wines were mostly blends from various vineyards in the city. It was the first cru to carry the name of the vineyard on the label. But Burgundy is a wine region capable of showing enormous diversity in its soil, even meter by meter, and it was important for Guy to start celebrating this in all of his wines. He became a local pioneer by making the single-origin wines of his village of Meursault.
In 1989, Jean-Marc decided to take full control of the domain and since 2000, the vineyards have been cultivated organically so that the soils are expressed with greater accuracy and precision. Additionally, Jean-Marc uses mass selection, replacing the oldest and dying vines with cuttings from the Domaine's best-performing old vines. This process is not easy, but it creates a defining “domain DNA.” The mother vineyard used in Roulot is “À Mon Plaisir – Clos du Haut Tesson”.
